The guest of honour is the world-renowned hotelier and entrepreneur Horst H. Schulze, who will be honoured for his life’s work. And the most internationally renowned designers from
five continents will discuss the hotel design of the future at the ‘101 Executive Summit’

Hamburg, 9 October 2024 – Just as the Golden Bears are to the best films at the Berlinale, so are ‘The 101 Best’ to the luxury hotel industry: the most prestigious award in the country. For the fifth time, “Germany’s 101 Best Hotels” will be announced on 24 November 2024. This year’s host is the Das Achental resort on Lake Chiemsee, with Managing Director Nikolai Bloyd and “101 Next Generation Hotelier of the Year” Louis Steinle. At the glamorous “101 Grande Soirée” gala, the Board of Trustees will honour the top hotels of 2025 in ten categories, including Luxury Spa & Health Resorts, Luxury Hideaways and Grand Hotels, in the presence of numerous celebrities. The gala will once again be attended by numerous celebrities from the worlds of show business and business, such as tennis legend Michael Stich and TV presenter Alexandra Polzin. The evening’s culinary delights will be curated by Edip Sigl, Edip Sigl, whose culinary artistry has been recognised with three Michelin stars.

The guest of honour at the event is Horst H. Schulze, who will be presented with the title ‘101 Icon Hotelier of the World – Lifetime Achievement Award’. Horst H. Schulze began his career as a waiter in Bad Neuenahr and, as COO and President, led the Ritz-Carlton Company to the pinnacle of the global luxury hotel industry. The service standards he developed are legendary – and with his philosophy, “We are Ladies & Gentlemen serving Ladies & Gentlemen”, he was far ahead of his time. Even today, the 85-year-old entrepreneur is in demand as a consultant across various business sectors. “Horst H. Schulze has transformed the world of hospitality. He virtually invented service excellence and established it across all areas of his hotels worldwide. Horst continues to inspire the entire industry to this day. He is the successor to César Ritz, and as such he is the king of all hoteliers and the hotelier to the kings,” says Carsten K. Rath, who founded the “Top 101” ranking together with his son David Rath. This year, for the first time, the “101 Icon Hotelier of the Year” will also be announced in Germany.

A particular highlight of the event is the “101 Executive Summit powered by global office”. This year, renowned designers such as Colin Finnegan (FG Stijl), Clint Nagata (Blink Design Group), Matteo Thun (Matteo Thun Milano), Tina Norden (Conran and Partners) and Peter Silling (Peter Silling & Associates Hotel Interior Design) will discuss the future of hotel design and share their views on some fascinating questions. The panel discussion will be moderated by Daniel Schneider (Monoplan). What, for example, will take the lead – conceptual designs à la Marcel Wanders or designs that draw on local and regional elements?

Hamburg, 30 September 2024 – He started out as a waiter in Bad Neuenahr. He worked in some of Europe’s finest hotels, including the Savoy in London, the Plaza Athénée in Paris and the Beau Rivage in Lausanne, before his career really took off in the USA: After roles at Hilton Hotels and the Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Horst H. Schulze led the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company as President and COO to the top of the global luxury hotel industry. The operational and service standards he developed were legendary. With his philosophy, ‘We are ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen’, he was far ahead of his time and established as early as the 1980s what would only become established in the hotel industry more than 20 years later: staff are the key to true service excellence. He was the only entrepreneur in the world to have won the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award twice during his time at the Ritz-Carlton; the award was presented to him in the Oval Office by President Bill Clinton. After selling his shares in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company to Marriott, Horst H. Schulze decided to give it another go and founded the ultra-luxury hotel company Capella, which has become a leader in quality and now comprises ten hotels, resorts and residences.

The entrepreneur, now 85 years old, is in demand worldwide as a consultant across various business sectors.

The St. Moritz Celebrity Golf Cup
will be back!

Hamburg / St. Moritz – A Long Driver climbed onto the roof of the renowned Badrutt’s Palace and hit a ball into Lake St. Moritz with ease! Top athletes from the Highlands danced with a tartan skirt and free upper body at a party. A German bard took the floor and spoke of the fairest and most original golf tournament he had ever played in. That was the St. Moritz U.S. Celebrity Golf Cup in 2019. Unforgettable.

Next year, the tournament will be played on the courses of the Engadine Golf Club for the second time. Personalities from sport, film and television will compete against each other in two teams – USA and Europe – from 28 June to 01 July 2021. “We already have commitments from charming players,” says Ramun Ratti from the Engadine Golf Club. The 42-year-old managing director does not wish to communicate individual names at this time. In 2020, the proceeds of the charity tournament will go to the heroes of everyday life from the acute Corona period, i.e. the time of curfew. A hospital in the Engadine will be supported. In 2019, the charity will raise around 50,000 Swiss francs through an auction of travel and selected art at Badrutt’s Palace. Ramun Ratti says: “The St. Moritz U.S. Celebrity Golf Cup for the Ryder Cup European Development Trust (RCEDT) in 2019 has shown us in a very gratifying way that golf is very much capable of bringing together people from different corners of the world for a common goal in these unstable times of segregation and exclusion”.

The U.S. Celebrity Golf Cup for the RCEDT in Monaco in 2021 will take place one week before St. Moritz, as it is cancelled this year due to the Corona Pandemic. Its participants will also compete in St. Moritz directly afterwards.

An estate with biblical garden, infinity pool 
and star cuisine: In the Monastero Santa Rosa at the Amalfi Coast the summer is still in autumn

Hamburg / Conca dei Marini – It is not without reason that the Monastero Santa Rosa has received many awards. Now – after weeks of shutdown – the boutique hotel on the Amalfi Coast with its 20 rooms is once again the perfect location. On the one hand, there is plenty of space in the former nunnery. Through its corridors three Vespa scooters could easily drive next to each other. The tables in the restaurant and on the terrace are so far apart that elephants would not have to break a plate while walking through. And in the terraced garden, guests can play hide and seek for hours among roses, lemon trees and monk’s pepper without being found. Not without reason hotel gardener Michele Scala says: “I have the most beautiful workplace in the world.” Together with his team, he has placed large planters next to the infinity pool for the acoustic and visual privacy among the guests. Those who jump into the water here swim out into the sky and seem to land in the sea.

On the other hand, the hotel follows the security guidelines of the government. Guests are allowed to briefly undergo a temperature check with a special thermometer upon arrival. And they can view the hotel offers on their mobile phones with a QR code. Hygiene standards in rooms and lounges are very high anyway. “In the Monastero, guests find the simple in the special and the special in the simple,” says Flavio Colantuoni, who has managed the hotel since it opened in 2012. This includes, for example, being cooked by Christoph Bob – the restaurant Il Refettorio holds a Michelin star for his creations. Massages and other spa treatments are also available outdoors, with views over the garden to the horizon. For the hotel is enthroned like a guardian of the sea high above the Amalfi Coast. Holidays in these times cannot be more beautiful.
