
Hamburg, 18 March 2025 – The Schlemmer Atlas has named the [m]eatery restaurants at the SIDE Design Hotel Hamburg and the Gewandhaus Dresden among the 50 best steakhouses in Germany. The award ceremony took place yesterday at Internorga 2025 in Hamburg. The jury’s statement reads: Both restaurants are “top picks for meat lovers and impressed the editorial team with their meat quality and variety, cooking methods, atmosphere, side dishes and sauces, and selection of drinks”.
When it opened more than 10 years ago, the Hamburg-based [m]eatery, under the direction of head chef Hendrik Maas, was the first restaurant in Germany to embrace the concept of dry-aging and pursue it consistently. As guests walk through the Artrium of Hamburg’s SIDE Hotel, designed by Mattheo Thun and US director Robert Wilson, they look straight out onto the large glass ageing cabinet containing the beef sides, which separates the lobby from the restaurant. The salt-crusted fillet and variations on free-range beef are among the special dishes to share. “We are delighted to receive this award. It shows once again that we are on the right track. Of course, our cuisine has evolved since then and now offers exquisite dishes for vegetarians and vegans too,” says Nicolai Scheugenpflug, manager of [m]eatery bar + Restaurant.
With over 1.5 million page views per month, the Schlemmer Atlas is one of the best-known and most important restaurant directories for fine dining. Since 1973, it has also been published by Busche as a book featuring a curated selection of restaurants. The ‘Top 50 Steakhouses in Germany’ award was presented for
the first time this year.
